Our Club consists of getting together on a regular basis in order to share ideas and enjoy activities based on our common interest. Pre-Veterinary and Animal Welfare Society promotes and expects a non-judgmental and supportive attitude from participants. What is PAAWS? PAAWS stands for the Pre-Veterinary and Animal Welfare Society at the University of Prince Edward Island.

Admission criteria for the pre-veterinary stream Canadian High School Equivalency Chart Grade 12 Academic English Grade 12 Academic Mathematics Two Grade 12 Academic Science subjects (acceptable subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Oceanography, Animal Science, Environmental Science) One additional Grade 12 Academic course Please note: Successful completion of Grade 12 Chemistry (or equivalent) is required as a prerequisite for permission to register in CHEM-1110. *Please refer to the UPEI Academic Calendar for complete and updated information.

​Do I have to be a pre-veterinary student to become a member? No! Our goal is to connect UPEI students with one common interest – animals. Although the majority of our events may be catered towards students with an interest in pursuing a career in the veterinary field, we will also have events and opportunities that are related to research, promoting animal welfare, and more!

Academic requirements for the DVM program at the Atlantic Veterinary College? You must have at least 20 prerequisite courses completed or in progress at the time of application in order to be considered. Course work must include at least one course satisfying each of the following requirements: Animal Biology 1 Animal Biology 2 Animal Biology 3 Genetics Mathematics 1 Mathematics 2 (Statistics) Chemistry 1 Chemistry 2 Chemistry 3 (Organic Chemistry) English (Composition) 10 Electives

What is the pre-veterinary medicine stream at UPEI? The pre-veterinary medicine stream provides students with an opportunity to meet the course requirements to be eligible to apply to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at the Atlantic Veterinary College and supports progress toward a Bachelor of Science degree. Pre-veterinary students are admitted into the Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biology Life Sciences Specialization.

What happened to the previous Pre-Veterinary Society? Unfortunately, after the Covid-19 pandemic and hurricane Fiona, many clubs became inactive. PAAWS is a brand new society, created in September 2023, and focuses on pre-veterinary medicine, as well as animal-welfare.
